Joanne LeBlanc has started with the Delegations and Quality Division as an
Administrative Assistant. Joanne brings a wealth of experience to the job,
having worked as an Administrative Assistant in Human Resources at La Cité
collégiale, the first French college in Ottawa, for the past 11 years.
Although, Joanne has been with us only a few months she is proving to be a very
positive addition to Delegations. Joanne resides in Sarsfield and has two
children, Stéphanie who is 17 years old and her son, Patrick, who is 14.
As of November 19, Talaat Atalla has joined the Delegation and Quality
group. Talaat hails from Bell Helicopter Textron after working in Airworthiness
and Projects for 3 years where he worked with Mark Winstanley and Somen
Chowdhury. He was previously employed with Pratt and Whitney for 13 years as
senior Plant and Project Engineer. Judging from Talaat's productiveness and
ability to learn the ropes quickly with Delegations, it is certainly Bell's
loss and Transport Canada's gain to have him with us. Talaat has 3 children
and is married to a Professional woman... !!! . His family still resides in
Montreal waiting for the big move to Ottawa.
Kandanchatha Narayanan has recently joined the Delegations and Quality
division from the Avionics Section of the Engineering Division. He also has
experience working in the the Regulatory Standards Division. Narayanan also has vast experience in the maintenance field having held
responsible positions in Canadian Airlines, Provincial Airlines and Air
Atlantic. Later, to transfer the knowledge and experience he gained, he started
a A. M. E. training school in Newfoundland, the only private school to be
approved by TC. Thus in addition to his design approval knowledge, his academic
credentials include a B.Sc Engineering from North Eastern University , Boston,
AME license and a Vocational Instructor Certificate ( Diploma in education) from
the government of Newfoundland and Labrador.
( Even though Narayanan seems like his last name, it is his real given name, and would like to be addressed by that name.)
Serge Massicotte joined the Flight Test Division as an Engineering Test
Pilot in August. He is a graduate of Royal Military College and the French Test
Pilot School at Estre and has an operational background in military
helicopter
search and rescue. Most recently he was involved in Search and Rescue
operational evaluation projects at CFB Trenton. Before that he was a rotary wing
test pilot in the Aerospace Engineering Test Establishment, CFB Cold Lake, where
he was involved in the acquisition, evaluation and acceptance of the Canadian
Force Bell 412s and in technical evaluations of the search and rescue
replacement helicopter, the EH-101 Cormorant. He will be employed on
certification projects at Bell Helicopter, foreign helicopter airworthiness
reviews and on Canadian modification approvals through the regional engineering
offices.
Please welcome Robin Jones to Transport Canada. Robin joined
Transport Canada Aircraft Certification - Engineering/Structures on August 20.

group at Pratt and Whitney Canada, Innotech Aviation, and Boeing
Canada. Robin has 4 children and lives in Pakenham. Welcome Robin!
Carlos Carreiro joined the Regulatory Standards Division, Domestic
Regulations last July. Carlos has a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering.
He worked as a Performance Engineer for a Flight Planning Company in Waterloo,
ON, where he was responsible for runway analysis and other related Flight
Operations issues. Before then, he had worked for airline companies in Brazil as
a Maintenance Engineer and later as a Flight Operations and Performance
Engineer. During that time he also had some experience working as a commercial
pilot.
Gordanko [Gord] Jemeric has just joined the Support Section within the
Continuing Airworthiness Division where he will be putting his 15 years of
Airline/Aerospace engineering experience in Reliability and Maintainability
(R&M) to use for Transport Canada. Gord comes to us from Bombardier [de
Havilland] where his experience included assignments on the Global Express,
DHC-7, and DHC-8 aircraft as well as the PW120/123 and PW150 engines. Gord is no
stranger to Ottawa having previously worked at First Air where he completed
R&M assignments related to B727, HS748 and DHC-6 aircraft plus JT8D and PT6
engines. Gord's duties will include working on R&M issues for the Branch as
well as performing Risk Analyses on in-service difficulties and developing an
SDR alert system.
Gord's aviation interests extend beyond the office as he is a member of the Southern Ontario Soaring Association located near Hamilton, Ontario where he is an instructor. When the remnants of winter have left us, we should not be surprised to see Gord cycling along the many bicycle pathways that parallel our Ottawa rivers.
Gord is located just outside Bohdan Goyaniuk's office; please don't hesitate to drop by and introduce yourself. Welcome Gord!
Jorge Canal has been working as a private aerospace engineering consultant in the Region for the last 4 years. His major design projects in the area include the structural design of the AWT Beaver Wing, structural design and analysis of Wipline Floats on 6000 lb. DHC-2 Beaver to name two. Prior to his arrival to Canada, Jorge was involved in the structural investigations of various designs ranging from rocket propellant to ultra light aircraft in Argentina.
Wendy Hanna will be joining us on July 3rd to take over from Michael Lozada as our Aircraft Certification Operational Assistant while Michael is on a well deserved and challenging assignment. Wendy brings experience in financial, administrative and database management areas which will be a tremendous help to us.
Welcome all new staff to Aircraft Certification!!
After a little over three years at the Aircraft Certification branch, Julien
Bourdeau has moved on to accept new challenges with DND in Ottawa. He said
it was not an easy and quick decision but required rather a long and deep
reflection process.
Julien was involved in the certification of several products including
DASH8-400, RJ-700 and B427. While the pace was quite hectic at times,
nonetheless he said he enjoyed working in the branch. He hopes to keep in touch
with the branch in some manner and conveys his best wishes for "A Happy New
Year" to all colleagues in the branch and in the industry.
Continuing Airworthiness
Mr. J. Roderick Digney, Superintendent of Information Programs, officially
retired from the public service on August 16, 2001. Rod headed the
"promotions" section of the Continuing Airworthiness Branch at
Headquarters in Ottawa for the last 15 years. Rod's involvement with the
development of Feed-Back magazine ranged from drafting numerous articles,
editing and proofing with his in-famous "red pen" markings, and
working closely with engineers and inspectors on various topics for inclusion in
the publication. An adept photographer, some of Rod's photographs are often
utilized in Feed-Back.
Numerous friends, retired colleagues and staff all joined in to bid Rod farewell at a retirement luncheon held in his honor. Even though he will be missed, everyone at Continuing Airworthiness wish him all the best in his future endeavors. Good luck, Rod!
