Apply for ABP-A&R Funding

The third call for proposals for assessment and removals (A&R) projects is open.

We are accepting applications for A&R projects from April 3, 2018 until March 31, 2019.

The A&R component of the Abandoned Boats Program (ABP) funds the permanent removal of abandoned and/or wrecked small boats that pose a hazard in Canadian waters.

This component provides funding to:

  • conduct boat assessments for removals
  • remove and dispose abandoned and/or wrecked small boats

Eligibility for funding

Eligible recipients include:

  • provinces, territories, municipalities and local governments
  • Indigenous groups, communities and organizations
  • private ports or marinas*
  • Canadian Port Authorities
  • for-profit and not-for-profit organizations

Abandoned and/or wrecked boats in a federally owned small craft harbour are not eligible for funding under this program. Please contact the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

We will contribute up to $5.6 million total over 5 years for this component of the ABP. Eligible recipients will receive up to:

  • 100% of their total eligible costs for boat removal assessments
  • 75% of their total eligible costs for the removal and disposal of boats

Eligible activities

We will reimburse the cost of activities to:

  • conduct boat removal assessments
  • remove and dispose abandoned and/or wrecked small boats

For example, costs eligible for reimbursement could include:

  • assessment costs
  • professional fees for contracted services
  • travel costs
  • salaries
  • administrative costs

Conditions of funding

Funding is available by reimbursement only. The following conditions apply:

  • You must prove that you have secured funding for the project
  • Transport Canada will not provide advance funding
  • All projects must be completed by March 31, 2022
  • You may receive a maximum of up to:
    • $5,000 per boat removal assessment
    • $50,000 per boat removal and disposal

How to apply

To apply for ABP-A&R funding for boat assessments:

  1. Use the Boat Assessment Application Form to create your application.
  2. Sign and submit your application.
  3. Once the application has been approved and costs have been incurred, please complete and sign the Reimbursement for Boat Assessments Form

To apply for ABP-A&R funding for boat removal:

  1. Contact us to receive your copy of the Project Proposal for Boat Removal Template and the Project Budget and Cash Flow for Boat Removal Template
  2. Use the Project Proposal for Boat Removal and Project Budget and Cash Flow for Boat Removal templates to create your application
  3. Sign and submit your application
