Applying for flight crew licences and permits

From Transport Canada

All flight crew members must hold a permit or licence issued by Transport Canada. Applicants complete a form and submit it along with documentation and a fee.

Personal information we collect during the application process is protected under the Privacy Act.

Before applying, prepare to show that you have passed examination(s) and met medical fitness standards. Specific requirements for flight crew licences and permits are listed in Standard 421 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs) – Flight Crew Permits, Licences and Ratings.

Submitting an application

To submit an application for a flight crew permit or licence:

  1. Choose from the Permit application forms or Licence application forms for the type of aircraft.

    The forms listed on this page are available as a PDF or, in some cases, by print order only. If the form you require is not accessible to you, contact us.

  2. Fill out the correct form in blue or black ink only. Review and sign it.

  3. Attach required documents and the application fee. The fee may be paid by cheque to the Receiver General of Canada, or by Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.

  4. Submit the form, documents, and fee to your nearest Transport Canada regional office.
