KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

The Operations Manager Examination is one of the requirements necessary in order to become a Operations Manager.  Operations Manager applicants will also be required to successfully complete an interview, specific to their operations, with the appropriate Regional Commercial and Business Aviation Principal Operations Inspector prior to Operations Manager appointment.

This study guide lists the subject areas included in the initial Operations Manager written examination (OMCOH). 
The subjects covered in the examination are as follows:

  1. Aeronautics Act and General Provisions
  2. CARs General Provisions and Pilot Licensing
  3. CARs Airworthiness and General Operating Rules
  4. CARs for Commercial Air Services including the associated Commercial Air Service Standards (CASS)
  5. Instrument Flight Rules and Procedures (for IFR operators)

Each examination consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. The pass mark is 80%. The time permitted is 2 1/2 hours.

ADMISSION

Operations Manager applicants shall be recommended to the Transport Canada Principal Operations Inspector, who will verify the applicant’s qualifications in accordance with paragraph 724.07(2)(b) of the CARs. The Principal Operations Inspector will issue the qualified applicant a Letter of Recommendation to attempt the written examination.

To be admitted to the Operations Manager examination, the applicant shall provide the invigilator with:

  • proof of identification, and
  • a letter of recommendation from the Principal Operations Inspector.

EXAM FEEDBACK

On completion of the Operations Manager written examination (OMCOH), a results letter will be issued, informing the candidate on the subject areas in this guide that were answered incorrectly, (eg. “Study & Reference Guide item 2.04”, which refers to CAR 103.04, Record Keeping).
