LANDING OVER-RUN ACCIDENTS CAN BE AVOIDED BY:

Recognising the existence of these main contributing factors, any one of which will increase landing distance considerably

  • Approach speed too fast 
  • Obstacles on the approach
  • Height at threshold too high
  • Tailwind component
  • Wet and greasy surface
  • Poor braking action
  1. Deciding early whether to continue or abort the approach or landing
  2. Executing immediate and correct go-around action when necessary (obstacles and terrain permitting)
  3. Avoiding airstrips that are beyond the capabilities of you and your aircraft type
