Bird Hazard Posters

Three bird hazard posters have been developed by Transport Canada, and are available by contacting the Wildlife Control Specialist. One poster describes the bird hazard problem, and another describes a range of solutions available to airport operators. The third poster highlights the threat to aviation safety posed by rapidly increasing populations of some waterfowl species.

Bird Identification Posters

Three posters have been developed by Transport Canada, which are designed to assist airport wildlife control officers in identifying bird species that may be pose a threat to aircraft. These posters are available by contacting the Wildlife Control Specialist.

Airport Wildlife Management Bulletins

Bird Strike Awareness Videos

Transport Canada has produced three videos that highlight concerns about aircraft/wildlife collisions;

  • Crossed Paths is a general awareness video, which provides an overview of the bird hazard problem (18 minutes),
  • There's Something Out There is a wildlife control training video, designed for use by staff who manage wildlife at airports (30 minutes), and
  • Not in My Backyard is designed to provide information on the siting of landfills to airport operators, municipal authorities, and people from the waste disposal industry (15 minutes).

Bird Avoidance Brochure

A colourful, attractive brochure designed to make pilots aware of birds and the hazards that they pose to aircraft. Bird/Wildlife Strike Report Form

These forms with attached postage paid envelopes are intended for use by anyone in the Canadian aviation industry so that incidents involving wildlife and aircraft can be reported to Transport Canada. Forms can be obtained by contacting the Wildlife Control Specialist. Sharing the Skies

Sharing the Skies is a user-friendly guide to the management of wildlife hazards for all industry stakeholders. It was written to serve as a tool for pilots, airport operators, air operators, air traffic service providers as well as airframe manufacturers, providing information to enable coordinated efforts to reduce the risk associated with wildlife in the aviation environment. Wildlife Control Procedures Manual (3rd Edition)

Provides tactical, on-site guidance to wildlife management personnel for use on management procedures, products and techniques for wildlife control. The manual also contains a list hazardous species and how to manage them. Hard copies of the publication are available by contacting the Wildlife Control Specialist. Bird Strikes to Canadian Aircraft - Summary Reports

Transport Canada Bird Hazard Studies and Reports
