2.3c) Strikes/Damage to Aircraft by Engine Type

Fifty-two percent of all reported strikes (where the engine type was identified) involved turbofan aircraft; of those, seven percent were strikes to the engine; of those strikes to the engine, twenty-four percent resulted in engine damage.

Thirty-four percent of all reported strikes (where engine type was identified) involved turboprop aircraft; of those, five percent were strikes to the engine; of those strikes to the engine, thirty-nine percent resulted in engine damage.

Eight percent of all reported strikes (where engine type was identified) involved piston aircraft; of those, two percent were strikes to the engine; of those strikes to the engine, one hundred percent resulted in engine damage.

Three percent of all reported strikes (where engine type was identified) involved turboshaft aircraft; of those, six percent were strikes to the engine; of those strikes to the engine, one hundred percent resulted in engine damage.

Three percent of all reported strikes (where engine type was identified) involved turbojet aircraft; of those, seven percent were strikes to the engine, resulting in no damage.
