Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICAs)

The AEG provides a review service of ICAs and maintenance instructions related to the following topics:

  1. Issuing of Type Certificates
  2. Issuing of Supplementary Type Certificates
  3. Revision of ICAs
  4. Issuance of Airworthiness Directives

During certification activities the Aircraft Evaluation Group provides support by reviewing ICAs and making recommendations, which will minimize the chance of misinterpretation of maintenance instructions by operators and maintainers. Where standards for format and content have been applied, conformance to these standards is checked.

Products include fixed and rotary wing transport and recreational aircraft, balloons, seaplanes, piston and turbine engine, components, etc. The AEG maintains an overview of in-service events affecting these products, to ensure that ICAs continue to reflect current requirements.

ICA activities include the review and acceptance of the initial issue of new manuals and the subsequent revisions to these documents.

Prior to the operation of certified aerospace products, the maintenance and overhaul instructions for these products must meet certain regulatory requirements. These requirements relate to completeness and clarity of the text and illustrations and specific points concerning airworthiness limitations and time limits.
