IM/IT References

This collection of references has been compiled to provide information on Transport Canada’s IM-IT standards and related materials.  The intended audiences are IM-IT vendors who wish to bid for Transport Canada (TC) contracts, and IM-IT professionals who are working on behalf of TC, but who don’t have access to the TC Intranet.

Transport Canada's IM/IT Environment 2011-2012

The following reports, which describe TC’s IM-IT environment and investment plans, are intended to provide vendors, and other interested parties, an overview of the department and the technologies in use.  The goal is to help vendors to prepare better proposals by considering the existing infrastructure and future plans.

Treasury Board Common Look and Feel (CLF) Standards

All TC web applications and web pages must conform to the appropriate CLF standard: CLF 2.0 for all Internet sites and CLF 1.1 for Intranet.  TC has developed templates for each of the CLF standards and has built .NET components that allow web applications to also conform.

Transport Canada Data Administration – Metadata Framework and Standards

The Metadata Framework and Standards deals with Data and Process Modeling, which is an integral part of the Information Management Life Cycle. One of the biggest issues that organizations are facing today is to manage enterprise data. Enterprise data cannot be efficiently managed without effective data and metadata standards.  The Transport Canada Data Administration Metadata Framework and Standards was created to ensure that applications are developed following standards that are consistent throughout Transport Canada. Data Modeling forms the basis for all application development activities. Consulation with clients is underway.
