Subject: International Maritime Dangerous Goods Codes

Amendment 29/98 of the International Maritime Dangerous Goods Code ( IMDG ) will enter into force internationally on January 1, 1999. This edition fully harmonizes the IMDG Code with the 10th edition of the United Nations Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods.

Whilst the new Amendment will enter into force on January 1, 1999, the International Maritime Organisation ( IMO ) has authorized an implementation period lasting until June 30, 1999.

During this period, either the existing Code (Amendment 28) or the new one may be used; however, from July 1, 1999, only the new Code (Amendment 29) shall be used.
