On January 1, 2017, new requirements related to the format of Marine Medical Certificates came into force, in accordance with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), Manila amendments.

Transport Canada (TC) has sent out new Marine Medical Certificates to Seafarers who are currently in possession of a valid certificate. These new certificates meet the STCW requirements.

This issue is important to those seafarers who work internationally. We encourage any seafarers who work internationally, who have not received the new format certificate by early January 2017, to contact TC through the toll free number at 1-866-577-7702 or email general inquiry at TC.Marinemedicine-Medecinemaritime.TC@tc.gc.ca. Please note the word « medicine » is spelled DI for the 1st word and DE for the 2nd.
