Compliance Notices
Safety Compliance Notice Requirements
Every pleasure craft manufactured or imported in Canada shall display a Canadian compliance notice (capacity or conformity label) before it is sold to an end user.
For information on the current process for Compliance Notices please see the Office of Boating Safety.
In view of the coming into force of the new Small Vessel Regulations scheduled for 2009, a new process will be put in place for Safety Compliance Notices. Major changes to the process are:
- A new form of Declaration of Conformity (DOC) to the construction requirements will have to be prepared by the manufacturer, builder or importer of small vessels and submitted to the Minister.
- After having submitted the Declaration of Conformity the manufacturers, builders or importers will be able to issue their own compliance notices in the form prescribed by the Minister.
- One year after the coming into force of the new Small Vessel Regulations the Compliance Notices program will be extended to non-pleasure craft.
To learn more about the new proposed process please contact the Design, Equipment and Boating Safety directorate at shipshape@tc.gc.ca.
