Transport Canada Advises Boaters of Recall

Transport Canada is advising boaters that a recall has been issued for certain Sea Doo sports boats equipped with Mercury 240 EFI engines.

Bombardier Motor Corporation of America in the United States and Bombardier Inc. in Canada (collectively "Bombardier") are conducting a voluntary safety recall of certain Sea Doo sports boats equipped with Mercury 240 EFI engines.

When exposed to a corrosive environment, such as salt water spray, there is a potential for the Mercury 240 EFI engine throttle body to become stuck open or become difficult to operate due to corrosion. This situation could cause an unexpected acceleration when the engine is started or a failure to decelerate when the throttle lever is returned to idle. This could impair the operator's control of the craft and create a risk of serious injury or death.

*Not all units are affected by this recall. Please contact your authorized Sea Doo sport boat dealership to find out if your boat is affected by this notice.

Transport Canada, with its mandate to promote boating safety, is assisting Bombardier in spreading the word of this recall. Both organizations are recommending that owners of affected models suspend use of their boat until the necessary repairs, if required, are completed.
