Dangerous Goods Container Inspection Program
Transport Canada Marine Safety Inspectors designated as inspectors under the Canada Shipping Act, 2001, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and the Safe Container Convention Act, carry out inspections in Canada using relevant International Maritime Organization (IMO) codes and guidelines as standards. A formal inspection regime is in place in Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax at the main container terminals to monitor compliance with the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code and the Safe Container Convention Act and Regulations.
The results of these inspections are entered on a regular basis in a web-based application that allows for recording and management of dangerous goods inspections. These reports are also forwarded to the Dangerous Goods, Solid Cargoes and Containers (DSC) Subcommittee of the Summary of Deficiencies 2005
