3.1.1. Regular inspections by a company Safety Inspection Officer should be carried out or a safety committee comprised of representatives from each department should be organized on every vessel. Meetings should be held at regular intervals to review shipboard safety measures.
3.1.2. The minutes of such meetings should be recorded and sent to Management and Unions.
3.1.3. All injuries should be reported to the supervisor in charge, treated, and properly recorded. A full description of the incident should be sent to Management and Unions.
3.1.4. Reports of unusual accidents or near misses should be posted on bulletin boards and brief details of such be circulated to industry for general information.
3.1.5. If an accident occurs in the holds, machinery should be shut down immediately and the officer in charge notified.
3.1.6. Unloading must be stopped when an accident occurs and not resumed until safe to do so.
3.1.7. Emergency first aid equipment should be readily accessible.
3.1.8. Personnel should become knowledgeable in first aid procedures and in a recommended method of artificial respiration.
3.1.9. Portable resuscitation equipment should be easily accessible.
