Ship Security Officers
Please note that, in the goal of avoiding confusion between the already existing voluntary program for security officers and the new program for SSO on board SOLAS ships (beginning January 1, 2008), Transport Canada has changed the name of the voluntary program from "Transport Canada Recognition Program for Marine Security Training Programs / Courses" to "Voluntary Program For Marine Security Course Acceptance". The new program will continue to be called the "Recognition Program for Approved Ship Security Officer Training".
All institutions wishing to have recognition status for a SSO course (in order for their SSO graduates to receive a certificate of proficiency ) should provide submissions under the "Recognition Program for Approved Ship Security Officer Training". Institutions wishing to have all other security officer courses accepted should provide submissions under the "Voluntary Program For Marine Security Course Acceptance".
