The Government of Canada and Railway Association of Canada Sign New Agreement On Railway Security

News Release

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Mr. Cliff Mackay, president and chief executive officer of the Railway Association of Canada (RAC), today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to strengthen railway security.

The negotiating team which included members from Transport Canada, The Railway Association of Canada, and the Railway Association Advisory Group.

Governments of Canada, Ontario and Quebec to Develop the Ontario-Quebec Continental Gateway and Trade Corridor

News Release

MONTREAL — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, the Honourable Donna Cansfield, Ontario Minister of Transportation, and Ms. Julie Boulet, Quebec Minister of Transportation, today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the development of the Ontario-Quebec Continental Gateway and Trade Corridor.

Canada's New Government Invests $12.5 Million in Marine Security Projects Across the Country

News Release

QUÉBEC — One hundred and fifteen projects aimed at enhancing security at Canadian ports and domestic ferry services will receive funding under the Marine Security Contribution Program. Appointments to National Capital Commission

News Release

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointments of Mr. Russell A. Mills, as chair of the 15-member board of directors of the National Capital Commission (NCC) for a term of five years; and Mr. Jason Sordi, as a member of the board of directors of the NCC for a term of three years.

Royal Canadian Mint unveils the world's first 100-kg gold coin

The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities and Minister responsible for the Royal Canadian Mint (left) and Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint today unveiled the world's first 100-kg, 99999 pure gold bullion coin with a $1 million face value, as well as the 99999 pure one-ounce Gold Maple Leaf bullion coin. The event took place at the Royal Canadian Mint in Ottawa.

Minister's Visit to Hamilton Airport

On Tuesday May 1st, 2007, the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Mr. Dean Allison, MP for Niagara West-Glanbrook and Richard Koroscil, president and CEO of the John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport, celebrated the arrival of the first flyglobespan flight into the airport this season. Flyglobespan is one of the largest and most popular airlines in the UK and, thanks to the Blue Sky Policy announced in November of last year, is now the newest partner of the Hamilton International Airport, offering more destinations and services.

Canada's New Government Announces Blue Sky Agreement with Ireland

Canada and United States Agree to Work Together to Improve Vehicle Fuel Efficiency

News Release

TUCSON, ARIZONA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and United States Secretary of Transportation, Mary E. Peters, today announced that the two countries have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation aimed at improving motor vehicle fuel efficiency. The Memorandum of Cooperation will help the Government of Canada in its efforts to develop motor vehicle fuel efficiency regulations.

Canada's New Government Officially Provides an International Designation to the Fredericton Airport

News Release

FREDERICTON, NB — Mr. Mike Allen, Member of Parliament for Tobique-Mactaquac, on behalf of the Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, announced today that the Fredericton Airport was granted the official designation of international airport. Accordingly, the name of the airport was officially changed to "Fredericton International Airport".

Government of Canada Teams Up with Cities to Help Canadians Leave Their Cars at Home

MONTREAL — Canada's New Government today announced an initiative to help Canadians better protect their health and environment by giving them more transportation choices. The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and the Honourable John Baird, Minister of the Environment, today announced that Canada's New Government will invest up to $10 million over four years in the ecoMOBILITY program.
