Promotional Video Launch: the Asia-Pacific Gateway Helps you Connect to Opportunities

No. H003/10
For release - January 15, 2010

OTTAWA — In light of the upcoming 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the Honourable Stockwell Day, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today launched a video to promote Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway as one of the fastest and most efficient ways to move products from the factory floor to store shelves.

“The Olympics will provide a perfect opportunity to showcase Canada’s commercial strengths to the world. We are using this opportunity to reach out to global leaders and investors to sell the many advantages the Asia-Pacific Gateway offers,” said Minister Day. “This video shows how Canada’s strategic location, at the crossroads between the North American marketplace and the booming economies of Asia, can help move goods quickly and efficiently, and therefore fosters business growth and creates jobs.”

The video is part of a series of six videos of approximately two to three minutes each. Each video focuses on key aspects of the Asia-Pacific Gateway such as infrastructure advantages and skilled workforce, in addition to putting the spotlight on some key projects in Western Canada.

The videos will be displayed:

  • during the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games;
  • at international and domestic presentations during Government of Canada outreach activities;
  • at tradeshows and exhibits;
  • by Asia Pacific Gateway partners for their marketing and outreach purposes, such as during trade missions and business-to-business meetings;
  • at targeted public venues — airports, exhibition halls, etc., all over the world (subtitles will be used);
  • for local promotion through community-based partners such as non-profit organizations and business associations; and
  • on the Asia-Pacific Gateway website (www.pacificgateway.gc.ca).

The Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor is a network of transportation infrastructure, including B.C.’s Lower Mainland and Prince Rupert ports; their principal road and rail connections stretching across Western Canada and south to the United States; key border crossings; and major Canadian airports. To date, the Government of Canada has committed over $1 billion to make the Asia-Pacific Gateway one of the world’s premiere transportation networks.
