Airspace Restrictions Announced for Vessel Passage in Canadian Waters

No. H094/10
For release - August 12, 2010

OTTAWA — Transport Canada today announced airspace restrictions that will be in effect while the MV Sun Sea vessel travels in Canadian waters.

These airspace restrictions will be in effect during the vessel’s passage to Esquimalt, as well as while it is in the port at Esquimalt. Transport Canada will restrict air traffic immediately above Esquimalt Harbour up to 2,000 feet. It is expected that this restriction will be in effect for 72 hours. Operations into Victoria Harbour aerodrome will continue with slight modifications to aircraft routing.

Restrictions are described to pilots in Notices to Airmen that are issued by NAV CANADA.

Transport Canada has informed air operators of these airspace restrictions in an effort to minimize their impact on the travelling public. It is expected that there will be minimal impact on air operations.
