Appointment to the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority

OTTAWA — The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the appointment of Mr. Richard Bélisle as a member and vice-chair of the board of directors of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority.

"The Great Lakes Pilotage Authority plays an important role in ensuring safe and effective pilotage services within Canadian waters in Quebec, south of St. Lambert Lock, and in Ontario and Manitoba," said Minister Cannon. "Mr. Bélisle's experience in business, administration, research and planning, will serve the authority well."

Mr. Bélisle holds a master's degree in business administration from l'École des hautes études commerciales and a master's degree in industrial psychology from the University of Montreal. He has been employed by the Commission de la santé et de la sécurité du travail for more than 25 years, where he has held positions as socio-economic research and planning officer, director of Operational Health and Safety and director of Administration and Special Initiatives.

Mr. Bélisle has been appointed to the board of directors of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority for three years.

The mission of the Great Lakes Pilotage Authority is to establish, operate, maintain and administer in the interest of safety, an efficient pilotage service for commercial vessels within the Great Lakes region.
