Minister Garneau launches North American Safe Boating Awareness Week
Hello, my name is Marc Garneau. I am Canada’s Transport Minister and as a formal naval officer, I am very aware of the importance of boat safety. This is North America’s Boat Safety Awareness Week and I’ve got a few tips for you. First, make sure you wear a life jacket. Just about all of the fatalities during boating accidents occur because the victims were not wearing a life jacket. Make sure that you have the safety equipment in your boat. And make sure that you have the proper licenses and operating certificates when you are operating a boat. And please, don’t go out and drink or take drugs and then think you can safely get into a boat. First of all, it is against the law and it’s also very dangerous. They are a lot of things that you can do to be sure that you’ll be safe in your boat. So please take the time to think about it and enjoy the boating season.
