2,700

Problem:

Diono (formerly Sunshine Kids) and Transport Canada wish to inform the public of an error on the National Safety Mark label affixed to the side of a limited number of Monterey booster seats. The National Safety Mark ( NSM ) is the round label with the maple leaf and the designated manufacturer/importer identifier number in the centre. This label also indicates the specific Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard(s) ( CMVSS ) with which the booster complies. The NSM that has been affixed to the Monterey booster seat indicates that the seat complies only with the child and infant seat standard ( CMVSS 213, 213.1), whereas the NSM should state compliance with the booster seat standard ( CMVSS 213.2). The corrected NSM will reflect the full certification status of the product as intended by the manufacturer and as indicated in the instruction manual and other labelling affixed to the booster seat.

Safety Risk:

None – the incorrect NSM will not affect the safety of the booster seat.

Company Action:

Transport Canada became aware that the incorrect NSM label was affixed to the Monterey booster seat. Transport Canada immediately informed the manufacturer of the incorrect label.

The label was changed on all booster seats manufactured after May 2011. All retailers in Canada to whom affected products were sent will be advised regarding the proper handling of the remaining inventory.

Consumer Recourse:

All registered owners with affected car seats will be sent a letter indicating how to obtain a free label replacement kit. Non-registered owners, or owners who have moved, are asked to contact Diono at 1-866-954-9786 to receive, free of charge, a repair kit consisting of a new NSM label and instructions regarding the location to affix the label. The affected booster seats should not be returned to the retailer.
