Ontario Region – Transportation Security and Emergency Preparedness

Transportation Security and Emergency Preparedness

The role of the Transportation Security and Emergency Preparedness (TSEP) branch in Ontario Region is to:
  • deliver a regional multi-modal transportation security regulatory oversight program;
  • promote industry compliance with legislation, measures and policies related to transportation security, through an inspection and enforcement program; and
  • manage an emergency preparedness program to ensure an effective response to emergency situations affecting the Ontario component of the national transportation system.

To achieve these outcomes, TSEP works in partnership with other government departments and agencies, private organizations and members of the transportation industry. TSEP also promotes awareness of regulatory requirements, conducts compliance inspections, and when necessary, uses regulatory compliance tools when a violation occurs.

Additional information affecting the travelling public and industry can also be found on TC's national website at http://www.tc.gc.ca/emergencies/menu.htm.

Regarding air security, TC works closely with the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority (CATSA) www.catsa.gc.ca, the organization responsible for the security screening of passengers, baggage and other persons and goods accessing aircraft and aerodrome restricted areas. TC regulates and monitors the performance of CATSA.
