Overview
In keeping with Canadian foreign policy objectives, Transport Canada's International Relations Branch coordinates the department's involvement in such international multilateral forums as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the Summit of the Americas, the Organization for Economic Cooperation (OECD), the European Ministers of Transport, and the Arctic Council. It is also involved in interdepartmental processes related to foreign policy development and implementation, and provides support for the international activities of the Minister and senior officials.
The International Relations Branch also coordinates the department's role in government-to-government international technical cooperation. More particularly, it is involved with sharing Canada's knowledge and innovation and developing targeted initiatives to strengthen the institutional capacity of public sector transportation departments in other countries by providing expert advice in air, marine, surface and multi-modal systems.
