Purpose

The purpose of this Discussion Paper is to seek stakeholder views on the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007 (Nairobi Convention), which was adopted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) at a diplomatic conference in Nairobi on 18 May 2007. The paper first provides an overview of the current Canadian legislation on shipwrecks followed by a review of the Nairobi Convention and invites all interested stakeholders to comment on any aspect of the Convention and whether or not they would recommend that Canada become a party to the Convention (i.e., State Party).
