Transportation Gateways and Trade Corridors

Freight Integration and Motor Carrier Policy

The Branch is responsible for the understanding of domestic logistical flows and the identification of infrastructure needs on strategic gateways and trade corridors. Through these activities, the network of strategic Canadian gateways and trade corridors will facilitate the efficient, reliable, safe and secure movement of goods and support the nation’s economic development while improving environmental quality.

The Branch is also responsible for the development of surface transportation projects that support trade with the Asia-Pacific region.

Activities

  • Provide analytical support in the area of gateways and corridors to determine where the Branch could assist in optimizing the movement of goods through these key economic enablers.
  • Work with provincial governments and other stakeholders in understanding, analyzing and developing solutions to improve the movement of freight.
  • In consultation with other parts of the Policy Group and other stakeholders, develop and implement transportation projects that form part of Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative.

The Branch works closely with colleagues within Transport Canada as well as other government departments and provincial governments on the transportation component of Gateways and Corridors policy issues.
