Highway and Border Policy

Highway and Border Policy is a branch of the Surface Transportation Policy directorate at Transport Canada. Its vision is for the best road transportation system for Canada and Canadians. Its mandate is to contribute to the development of strategic highway policies which will support the best possible transportation system; one that is safe, efficient, affordable, integrated and environmentally friendly.

Highway and Border Policy's areas of focus include highways, borders and transportation-related infrastructure. It coordinates the maintenance of the National Highway System policy framework, co-chairs the Transportation Border Working Group with the U.S. Federal Highway Administration, and manages the Gateways and Border Crossings Fund as part of its responsibilities.
