Canada’s Action Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Aviation

Building on the success of the world’s first voluntary agreement to address greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from aviation, the Government of Canada and the Canadian aviation industry have developed Canada’s Action Plan to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions from Aviation. The Action Plan sets an ambitious goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from both domestic and international aviation, and identifies key measures that are expected to have the greatest environmental impact.

In addition to superseding the 2005 voluntary agreement, the Action Plan forms the basis for the Government of Canada’s response to the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) Assembly Resolution A37-19, which encourages Member States to submit national action plans by June 2012 setting out measures each state is taking or will take to address international aviation emissions.

The final annual report under the 2005 voluntary agreement can be accessed here.
