A new generation of clean, efficient vehicle technologies are on the horizon for Canada.
After more than a century of the internal combustion engine, vehicle technology is taking a huge step forward.
New developments are just around the corner, ready to change the way we think about - and use - our vehicles.
But is Canada ready to embrace these innovations?
Transport Canada’s ecoTECHNOLOGY for Vehicles program - eTV - is helping to answer this question.
eTV tests and evaluates promising new technologies from around the world and helps inform the development of codes, standards and regulations … to encourage the safe and timely adoption of these innovations in Canada eTV works with all kinds of clean vehicle technologies, including advanced gasoline and diesel engines that use less fuel and boost efficiency.
Battery electric vehicles that can be plugged into standard wall sockets, with enough range to meet most daily driving needs Hybrid vehicles that combine the best of gasoline and electric engines to reduce emissions without sacrificing performance and hydrogen-powered vehicles that produce no tailpipe emissions at all - just water and heat - eTV carefully evaluates every aspect of these technologies:
On test tracks, in government laboratories and on the road in real-world driving conditions.
Test results help develop the regulations that industry needs to introduce these technologies to consumers quickly and safely.
Results are also posted online and shared with governments, industry and the public to help prepare Canada for these new clean and safe technologies.
