GMC Sierra 1500 Hydrogen Truck

GMC Sierra 1500 Hydrogen Truck - Fleet Vehicle

Environmental Benefits of a Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine Pickup Truck

  • Hydrogen gas burns cleaner than gasoline or diesel fuel
  • No tailpipe hydrocarbon or CO2 emissions

The eTV program acquired the hydrogen-powered GMC Sierra from the Integrated Waste Hydrogen Utilization Project (IWHUP). The hydrogen-powered GMC Sierra vehicle is not powered by a fuel cell. Rather, like most of the vehicles on the road today, it is powered by an internal combustion engine (ICE). However, the truck's V8 engine has been modified so that it can burn hydrogen gas instead of gasoline or diesel fuel.
