Innovations in emission control systems have made it possible for new diesel systems to meet stringent Canadian standards. To achieve a low fuel consumption rating without reducing power output, the diesel engine uses, for example, common rail direct injection and a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT). The direct injection system sprays fuel into the combustion chamber up to four times per cycle, creating a smoother, quieter operation that effectively captures more energy from each litre of fuel than previous diesel engines. The VGT allows the engine to produce more power at higher efficiency over a wide range of engine speeds.
The eTV fleet includes a number of clean diesel vehicles. Choose a vehicle using the thumbnail below as a link. Each vehicle's page includes pictures, a downloadable technical sheet and, where available, a test plan and test results.
