The Conseil régional de l'environnement et du développement durable de l'Outaouais (CREDDO) organizes projects and special events focusing on environmental awareness and education.

What are they doing?

CREDDO hosted an interactive exhibition entitled Comment se transporter dans l'avenir (Transportation in the Future) in June 2000. The objectives of the exhibition were to:

  • develop interest in the challenges of and alternatives for sustainable transportation;
  • offer interactive approaches to inform participants about the greenhouse phenomenon;
  • encourage individuals and organizations to utilize alternative transportation; and
  • measure individuals' interest in participating in the development of a sustainable transportation system in their community.

Results

This successful event was attended by 1,200 visitors consisting of 750 students (10-17 years old), 150 participants of the Transportation and Environment Summit and 300 members of the general public.

Participant feedback indicated that 91% acquired significant knowledge about climate change and sustainable transportation. The majority of participants (81%) believe that they need to change their transportation habits and participants are particularly interested in carpooling.
