Vélo Québec is a not-for-profit that promotes cycling for commuting, recreation and tourism. The benefits of cycling and active transportation in improving quality of life and reducing green house gas emissions are promoted not only in Québec, but also across Canada.
Vélo Québec aims to facilitate the dissemination of expertise and knowledge in cycling infrastructure development in Canadian municipalities. The project involves several one day technical workshops in a number of Canadian cities, starting in the fall of 2003 and ending in September 2004. Based on the Technical Handbook of Bikeway Design, the workshops take into account the particular characteristics of the audience's region.
Each workshop includes municipal or regional background information, theoretical information and a practical component in the field. The workshops will be open to professionals at the municipal level, decision-makers, elected officials, opinion leaders, representatives of not-for-profit organizations, cycling associations, etc.
Results will be posted upon receipt of a final report.
