Genuine Progress Indicators of Sustainable Transportation for Nova Scotia

GPI Atlantic is a non-profit research group founded in 1997 to develop an index of sustainable development and well-being.

What are they doing?

In the context of this project, GPI Atlantic plans to:

  • Develop provincial indicators of sustainable transportation;
  • Apply new and existing data sets to these indicators to allow for intermodal comparisons;
  • Use currently available data to calculate the full costs of transportation in Nova Scotia from 1990 to 2000, accounting for externalities; and,
  • Produce a tool that allows governments, community groups and researchers to calculate each of the indicators on an ongoing basis.

This project will situate its sustainable transportation indicators within the broader context of the Nova Scotia Genuine Progress Index. Sustainable transportation indicators will be integrated into a core set of sustainable development measures used by governments and community groups.

What did the project accomplish?

Results will be posted upon receipt of a final report.
