Hamilton-Wentworth Green Venture is a not-for-profit community based organization committed to energy, water and waste reduction, education, green space conservation and the greening of small businesses.

What are they doing?

Green Venture mounted a commuter challenge in 2001.
The 2001 commuter challenge involved a competition between participating groups to log the most kilometres traveled using sustainable modes of transportation - biking, walking and inline skating during June's Environment Week. The objectives of this year's commuter challenge were to:

  • recruit 50 organizations and 100 individuals to participate in planning and 1300 people to participate;
  • raise money for the local Lung Association;
  • engage new partners to help further sustain the effort for subsequent years, and help spread the word about sustainable transportation methods; and,
  • get the word out through media, and develop convenient and inspiring ways to get practical information about transportation alternatives to employees and the general public.

Status

Hamilton's Commuter Challenge was successfully held during Environment Week 2001.
