L'école - j'y roule: "vélo saint-lo" Activities

Carrefour jeunesse emploi Saint-Laurent (CJE Saint-Laurent) is a non-profit agency whose mission is to support young adults aged 16 to 35 residing in Saint-Laurent in their social and labour market integration efforts. To this end, CJE Saint-Laurent provides its clients with job search and educational and vocational guidance services in both English and French.

What are they doing?

Through the work of the young people who are participating in the social and job integration program, CJE Saint-Laurent will organize major awareness days with the local secondary school as well as with the two CEGEPs in Saint-Laurent. The goal of this event is to promote cycling and to introduce new bike promotion programs by students in each participating institution.

The second phase of the project will take place during the summer and will involve the development of cycling activities for and by young people from Saint-Laurent through community groups and day camps.

The program objectives include:

• Develop and implement recreational activities with several components that promote cycling at schools in Saint-Laurent;
• Continue to offer activities that encourage young people to use bicycles as a means of transportation through organizations that offer supervised summer activities for youth - day camps and YMCA;
• Promote cycling at schools, while taking advantage of the opportunity to promote Vélogik, Cycle North-South, other partners and their other related activities;
• Encourage students themselves, particularly those who feel marginalized or excluded, to participate in school-based activities in which they can take pride – empowerment.
• Promote good lifestyle habits such as physical fitness and health;
• Significantly increase the number of young people who ride their bikes to neighbourhood schools;
• Increase bicycle safety by promoting existing infrastructure and by working with the partners to create new infrastructures;
