Smart Growth on the Ground

Smart Growth B.C. is a province-wide NGO that advocates for more livable communities by promoting sustainable transportation, compact communities, affordable housing, the preservation of greenspace and agricultural land, and efficient use of infrastructure through ongoing citizen engagement. 

What are they doing?

Smart Growth on the Ground will work with a select group of partner communities in B.C. The team will facilitate the design of a neighbourhood concept plan, work with the municipality to adopt necessary by-laws and create relevant servicing plans, and assist in the monitoring of construction projects. Sustainable transportation and supportive development conditions will be a fundamental basis of each neighbourhood plan.

The project's goals are to facilitate the design and construction of developments that incorporate sustainability principles; to create wider public and industry awareness and acceptance of sustainable communities (planning, design and construction); to increase the participation and expertise of citizens and community organizations in local development; and, to provide tangible evidence, research and case studies of the costs and benefits of sustainable communities and sustainable transportation.

What did the project accomplish?

Results will be posted upon receipt of a final report.
