Vertigogogo - Phase 1
Communications Tour du lac inc. is a management consulting company working in land development, local development and communications by applying New Information and Communications Technologies (NICT).
What are they doing?
In order to deal with the challenges of air quality and urban quality of life, people need programs that help them take sustainable modes of transportation to every destination. The Vertigogogo pilot project uses broadband remote services (high-speed internet) to support carpooling among touring cyclists traveling to the Laurentians.
Vertigogogo supports the use of sustainable or integrated modes of transportation in people-s leisure activities. This should improve air quality and urban quality of life.
This project promotes sustainable solutions for transportation-related problems by providing:
- Methods for virtual information exchange;
- New carpooling management tools for employers and employees; and
- Training people to support the development of carpooling programs and sustainable development initiatives, both locally and regionally.
What did the project accomplish?
Notable results include:
- The development of automated software that can be accessed online and has an indeterminate life-span
- Individual subscriptions: 187
Actively searched for pairings: 106
Pairings: 38
Subscriptions were lower than expected due to delays experienced in working with government departments, pushing the launch of the service into the middle of the cycling season.
- 40% of people who subscribed to the service and travelled alone in their car before the project were offered pairings by the system. 20% declined the offer.
- A survey undertaken in 2002-2003 with cyclists who frequented the Petit Train du Nord showed that 60% of people were from the Montreal region and travelled there by car on average 22 times each summer.
- More than 20 guided tours at the Centre d'Accès communautaire à l'Internet (CACI) de Val-Morin, 32 meetings with municipal directors, transportation employees and public institutions and 4 meetings with businesses in the area.
