Transport Canada implements programs and policies that address passenger travel and freight movement in urban areas.

Transportation has an impact on many urban issues including: accessibility, environment, economy, social cohesion and the general quality of life for Canadians.

Transport Canada offers the following program initiatives to help make transportation choices greener.

ecoMOBILITY Program
The ecoMOBILITY Program works with municipalities to increase the use of public transit and other sustainable transportation options such as walking, cycling and carpools. [ More... ]

Moving on Sustainable Transportation (MOST) Program
MOST funds projects that promote, support, demonstrate and/or measure sustainable transportation in Canada.

Urban Transportation Showcase Program (UTSP)
UTSP demonstrated, evaluated and promoted ways to reduce emissions by increasing the use of sustainable transportation choices. As of 2009, final program results are being summarized and published. [ More... ]

Information Network
Urban Environmental Initiatives’ Information Network provides practical information and tools to transportation practitioners and decision makers on how to improve the sustainability of urban transportation. [ More... ]

Urban Policy

Urban Transportation Policy and Planning Branch
This branch of Surface Transportation Policy is responsible for undertaking research, analysis, and consultations with provincial and territorial and industry stakeholders to address issues faced by the urban transportation sector, including the development of policy frameworks for federal involvement in urban transportation. It is also responsible for assessing proposals for federal funding of public transit infrastructure projects. [ More... ]
