The project involves redeveloping Highway 185 into a four-lane divided highway between Cabano and Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! The project covers 13.4 km, including transition areas, including 12.2 km of divided highway. The highway will generally follow the current Highway 185 corridor.

First, the federal government is contributing $44,000,000 through CSIF to build, over a total distance of about 24 km, the first two segments in completing Highway 35 in Montérégie, that is, segments 1 and 2 between Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and the intersection with Highway 133 in Saint-Sébastien.
Second, the federal government is contributing $13,000,000 through BIF to build, over a total distance of about 5 km, the last segment in completing Highway 35 in Montérégie, that is, segment 4 at the south end of Highway 35 in the municipality of Saint-Armand. This segment will link Highway 35 to Interstate 89 in Vermont.

The project involves building a two-lane highway along a 24 km stretch between Thurso and Notre-Dame-de-Bonsecours (Montebello). This vital project forms part of a larger framework aimed at finishing the construction of Highway 50 to link the community of Gatineau and the Montreal metropolitan area.

The federal contribution to this project will allow nine shortline railways in Quebec to restore 1,600 km of their railway infrastructures. This project includes intensive work to change rails and ties, distribute ballast, level railroad tracks, and repair bridges. This work will extend the life and/or increase the load capacity of railways.

This project involves building a 6.5 km four-lane divided rural highway from Meech Creek (municipality of Chelsea) to the completed portion of the highway at Wakefield (municipality of La Pêche). The total cost of the 6.5 km link is estimated by the Quebec Department of Transport at $ 115,000,000. The governments of Canada and Quebec will also invest $5,000,000 in studies and analyses for the next 6.5 km stretch of Highway 5. The construction is planned to start during the winter of 2010.
