Southeast Stoney Trail (Calgary Ring Road)

The project involves the construction of the southeast leg of Calgary’s Ring Road from 17 Avenue SE to east of the existing MacLeod Trail interchange.  The project includes the construction of 25 kilometres of six-lane roadway, nine interchanges, two flyover railway crossings, and 29 total bridge structures resulting in free flow conditions with no traffic signals.  Currently, the Calgary Ring Road is open from 17 Avenue in southeast Calgary to the Trans-Canada Highway in northwest Calgary.  The northern half of the Ring Road was opened to traffic in November 2009. 



Highway 63 Twinning (Northern Alberta)

Federal Contribution: $150,000,000
Anticipated Project Completion: Fall 2015

The project includes the design and construction of two additional lanes to the existing two-lane Highway 63, from West of Highway 55 Junction to South of House River. The existing two-lanes will generally form the southbound lanes, with the new two-lane roadway developed as the divided northbound lanes. Highway 63 is the main road between Edmonton and the oil sands projects located in and around the town of Fort McMurray.

Anthony Henday Drive and Stony Plain Road Interchange (Southwest Edmonton Ring Road)

Federal Contribution: $45,280,000
Anticipated Project Completion: Fall 2011

The project consists of the construction of the Anthony Henday Drive and Stony Plain Road interchange, part of the ring road system in Edmonton, as well as the required works from Whitemud Drive to north of 111 Avenue due to the issues related to the close spacing of the interchanges.

The proposed project consists of the construction of two interchanges on Anthony Henday Drive Southwest, with Callingwood Road and Lessard Road, as well as additional works from Callingwood Road to Lessard Road that would be required due to the close spacing of these interchanges.

Highway 63 Urban Service Area Projects (Fort McMurray)

Under the Major Infrastructure Component of the Building Canada Fund, the two projects in the urban service area of Fort McMurray will improve traffic flow and movement of goods. These consist of interchanges on Highway 63 at Thickwood Boulevard and at Confederation Way north of Athabasca River as well as the widening of Highway 63 from Morrison Street to the Athabasca River Bridge.

52nd Street SE Widening Project (Calgary)

The project involves widening 4.7 km of 52nd Street from 2 lanes to a 4- to 6-lane facility, as well as the construction of a major new bridge over a local canal/Canadian Pacific Railway Line tracks, and other associated infrastructure.

Federal Contribution: $12,500,000
Anticipated Project Completion: December 2011

The project consists of the construction of the Anthony Henday Drive and Cameron Heights Drive interchange, part of the ring road system in Edmonton. The interchange will further advance the goal of having Anthony Henday Drive a free-flow highway over its entire length, which in turn will facilitate the movement of goods and increased trade along this important route.
