South Fraser Perimeter Road

A 40 km four-lane road connecting Deltaport to Highway 1 and the Golden Ears Bridge, which will provide a designated east-west truck route that will enhance international freight movement and reduce impacts on municipal road networks.



Roberts Bank Rail Corridor (9 projects)

This program includes nine road/rail grade separations in the Lower Mainland of B.C., along with road closures, network reconfigurations, and traffic management measures. This program will increase road and rail capacity and reduce impact on communities along this 70-kilometer corridor connecting international container and coal terminals with the North American rail network.

Delta Intersection Improvements

The projects in Delta, British Columbia, include improvements to the Chester Road and Cliveden Intersection and the Derwent Way and Chester Road Intersection as well as the installation of left turn lanes on Nordel Way at the intersections of Brooke Road and Shepherd Way.

Prince George River Road Improvements

Funding Program: Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative

Anticipated Project Completion: Late 2010

This project involves road and drainage upgrades to a 3.6 kilometre section of road to be completed in two phases. The first phase involves roadway improvements between the Cameron St. Bridge and Foley Crescent, while the second phase involves improvements from Foley Crescent to the CN Rail Fraser River Bridge. The key aspects include road reconstruction and widening to a Collector standard, updating of the sewer system, provision of roadside sidewalk, trail connection and street lighting, and raising the road to reduce flood inundations based on Provincial standards.

SRY Rail Barge Ramp

Funding Program: Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative

Project Completed: April 2010 

The Southern Railway received federal funding for a rail barge ramp at the marine rail terminal on Annacis Island in Delta. This project includes a barge ramp and berth capable of handling railcars and truck trailers. Southern Railway connects Canadian National, Canadian Pacific, Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Union Pacific using existing Southern Railway interchanges. The project  reduced traffic volume on River Road, contributed to increased traffic safety and  increased the efficiency of the flow of goods along the Asia-Pacific Corridor.

Pitt River Bridge and Mary Hill Interchange

This seven-lane bridge connected trade-related and transportation facilities on both sides of the Pitt River and enhanced the movement of international goods through the lower mainland.

Highway 97 – Simon Fraser Bridge

Highway 97 – Wright Station Curves

The project involves upgrading 4.2 km of highway 97 the major north/south artery in B.C. to four lanes.  The project is located at Wright Station Curves, between 100 Mile house and Williams Lake.

CN Smithers Grade Separation

The CN Smithers Grade Separation Project involved the construction of a rail overpass that separates Dahlie Road in the Town of Smithers from the CN Rail line.

Highway 1 – Hilltop to Balmoral

This project consists of upgrading the highway to a four-lane undivided standard highway with improved geometry, frontage roads to provide safe access to adjacent properties, and a mixture of new grade separated intersections and upgrades to the existing at-grade intersections. This will connect with the recently upgraded section of highway between Balmoral Road and Ford Road.

Knight Street Intersection Upgrades (6th Ave, 33rd Ave, 49th Ave, and 57th Ave)

The project includes intersection improvements at four key locations along the Knight Street corridor stretching from Marine Drive in the south to the Port of Vancouver in the north. The scope of work for these intersections includes construction of 3.0 meter left turn bays in both directions on Knight Street at 33rd Avenue, Knight Street at 49th Avenue, Knight Street at 57th Avenue and one left turn bay on Clark Drive at 6th Avenue.

Highway 1 - Kicking Horse Canyon: Brake Check to Yoho National Park

One of two components of phase three of the larger Kicking Horse Canyon project. This first component involves upgrading the section of highway from Brake Check to the boundary of Yoho National park to a four-lane highway. The work also includes replacing Mount Hunter Creek Bridge, highway widening, access consolidation and wildlife fencing.



Highway 1 - Kicking Horse Canyon: Golden Hill to West Portal

The second of two components of phase three of the larger Kicking Horse Canyon project. This component involves a grade reduction on Golden Hill approaching the potential future tunnel portal, highway widening, access consolidation, a grade separation at Golden Donald Upper Road, cycling/pedestrian improvements and wildlife fencing.



Highway 97 - Winfield to Oyama

This project will upgrade Highway 97 to four lanes from Winfield to Oyama, which will remove the last two lane section of Highway 97 between Highway 97C (the Okanagan Connector) and Vernon.



Highway 97A – Larkin Road to Crozier Road

The project involves widening from 2 to 4 lanes, the section of Highway 97A north of Vernon, between Larkin Road and Crozier Road, construction of an interchange with roundabout at the ramp terminals, and the addition of a local road to connect to the existing highway and the new interchange.

Highway 1 – Monte Creek to Prichard

The project consists of upgrading a 10.5 kilometre, 2-lane segment of the Trans-Canada Highway running through the Monte Creek to Pritchard area, 30 kilometres east of Kamloops. The upgrading to 4 lanes will bridge the gap between two existing 4-lane sections.



Highway 1 – Pritchard to Hoffman’s Bluff and Hoffman’s Bluff

Both projects involve realignment and widening from two to four lanes. In total 6.1 km of the Trans-Canada Highway will be improved through these two projects. There will also be two intersection upgrades at Willow Road and Chief Neskonlith Drive.



Highway 1 - Donald Bridges

The Donald Bridges project involves the upgrade of approximately 3.5 km of the Trans-Canada Highway from two-lanes to four-lanes with the construction of a new four-lane Donald Bridge over the Columbia River and a new four-lane Donald Overhead Bridge over the Canadian Pacific Rail line.



Highway 1 - Clanwilliam Overhead Replacement

The Clanwilliam Overhead Replacement project involves the reconstruction of 2.3 kilometres of the Trans-Canada Highway and improvement of the alignment from two-lanes to four-lanes including the construction of a new four-lane bridge across the Canadian Pacific Railway.



Highway 97A - Pleasant Valley to Lansdowne

This project is an upgrade of Highway 97 from Pleasant Valley Cross Road to Lansdowne Road from a two-lane rural arterial 80km/h design to a four-lane rural arterial 100km/h design, with accompanying intersection improvements to alleviate safety and capacity concerns.



Highway 97 - Westside Interchange

Anticipated Project Completion: Fall 2012

The project involves replacing the existing at-grade intersection of Westside Road and Highway 97 with a grade separated interchange. The intersection is located west of Okanagan Lake, between the Westbank and Kelowna downtown areas.



Johnson Street Bridge

Funding Program: Building Canada Fund

Applicant: City of Victoria
Estimated Total Project Cost: $77,000,000
Federal Contribution: $21,000,000
Anticipated Project Completion: 2015

The project will replace the existing Johnson St. Bridge and approaches with a new bascule bridge that will span the Victoria Harbour. The new bridge will feature three travel lanes, a multi-use trail for pedestrian and cyclist traffic, an improved rail corridor and improved signalization and approaches on both sides of the bridge.
