Employees of the Surface Infrastructure Programs Highways & Borders Group manage infrastructure projects across Canada under the following programs and initiatives:
Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative (APGCI)
The Asia Pacific Gateway and Corridor Initiative, a key component of the Building Canada Plan, was designed to fund infrastructure initiatives further to develop Canada’s Asia-Pacific Gateway.
Building Canada Fund (BCF)
The Building Canada Fund provides stable, flexible and predictable funding to Canadian provinces, territories or municipalities. This seven-year plan will have a real and significant impact on the everyday lives of Canadians, while supporting the nation's priorities - a stronger economy, cleaner environment and better communities. Infrastructure Canada is responsible for the overall management of the program and Transport Canada implements transportation projects selected to receive funding.
Gateways and Border Crossings Fund (GBCF)
The Gateways and Border Crossings Fund will improve the flow of goods between Canada and the rest of the world. This merit-based fund will enhance infrastructure at key locations, such as major border crossings between Canada and the United States.
Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund (CSIF)
The Canadian Strategic Infrastructure Fund is directed to projects of major federal and regional significance in areas that are vital to sustaining economic growth and enhancing the quality of life of Canadians.
Border Infrastructure Fund (BIF)
The Border Infrastructure Fund is critical to our growing economic and trade relationship with the United States. It supports the initiatives in the Smart Borders Action Plan by reducing border congestion and expanding infrastructure capacity over the medium term.
Outaouais Road Agreement (ORA)
The Outaouais Road Agreement was created to improve the road system in the Quebec portion of the National Capital Region; and to provide a level of service adequate to the needs of the region and be comparable in quality to the facilities that have been provided in the Ontario half of the region.
