The strategy sets out initial investments in projects that recognize Windsor’s unique needs to maintain a safe environment and high quality of life for residents while hosting an international Gateway. It is a multi-year strategy that will improve road safety; speed up the flow of cross-border traffic; protect and strengthen local jobs and growth; and improve transportation corridors.
Highway 69 Four-laning (Sudbury Region)

The Peace Bridge Commercial Lane Traffic Improvements project will construct a fifth primary inspection lane and booth for Canada-bound commercial vehicles and a designated Vehicle and Cargo Inspection System (VACIS) area at the Fort Erie-Buffalo border crossing.

The proposed Blue Water Bridge Canadian Plaza and Bridge Enhancements project consists of widening the Canadian Plaza to accommodate the Highway 402 widening, new Canada Border Services Agency primary inspection booths, truck ramp realignment, and other improvements to Canada’s second busiest international commercial crossing.
Sault Ste. Marie Plaza Redevelopment

The proposed project involves the expansion and redesign of the existing Canadian plaza including the construction of a new Canada Border Services Agency commercial off-load facility, and an accompanying passenger processing facility.

The project consists of the construction of new passenger vehicle and bus primary inspection lanes and a central building on the plaza to process both passenger and commercial vehicles in a common area. This will allow border service agencies to efficiently staff and conduct their processing duties and provide better control of vehicles designated for secondary inspection.
