The Îles-de-la-Madeleine Airport, originally called ¨House Harbour¨, was opened to the public in 1960, four yeuses after construction began. In 1968, local authorities handed over ownership and management to Transport Canada, Atlantic Region, whence responsability was transferred in 1976 to the Quebec Region.
1982 was a turning point in the airport's development: Transport Canada opened a new terminal and a Flight Service Station, expanded parking facilities and installed new navigational aids.
Today, the Islands' airport is a modern facility better able to meet users' requirements.
