Child Car Seat Research and Testing

Transport Canada conducts a range of tests for child restraint systems: research tests, compliance tests and testing related to behavioural research.

Compliance tests
These tests are used to verify that all car seats sold in Canada meet safety standards.

Research tests
These tests are proactive evaluations that go beyond the limits set by the regulations and examine various scenarios to assess risk. We do this research to improve standards, and not to rate any individual seat or to compare one seat with another.

Behavioural Research
The department also conducts research related to the appropriate use of child restraints.
