Commercial Vehicle Driver Hours of Service Regulations

These regulations are based on NSC Standard #9 – Hours of Service, as developed by the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators (CCMTA), which is the organization responsible for coordinating all matters dealing with the administration, regulation and control of motor vehicle transportation and highway safety in Canada.  The objective of this Regulation is to improve motor carrier safety by limiting a driver’s hours of work to increase alertness and reduce fatigue.

This is a link to the definitive publication of interpretations of the federal Commercial Vehicle Driver Hours of Service Regulations, for application by both industry and enforcement throughout Canada.  Like the NSC Hours of Service Standard #9, this document was CCMTA and consists of over 150 questions and answers that provide guidance regarding the application and enforcement of the rules.
