About Us
Transport Canada advises against the use of cell phones while driving. It is distracting and increases the risk of collisions. Driving requires your full attention and concentration. You have a responsibility to your passengers, other road users and yourself to operate your vehicle in a safe manner.
A considerable body of research has accumulated indicating that the use of cell phones while driving results in increased risk. Cell phone use while driving reduces awareness of what is happening around you and slows reaction times. The distraction results from your involvement in the conversation, not only from physically handling or looking at the device.
Avoid crashes as a result of cell phone use:
- Turn your cell phone off before you start driving. Let voice mail do its job.
- Delegate cell phone use to your passengers.
- If you must make a call, look for a safe opportunity to pull over and park. Then make the call.
