CSA-B620

What is the scope of the standard?

The CSA-B620 standard sets out the requirements for design, construction, certification, assembly, modification, repair, testing, inspection, periodic re-testing, maintenance, and marking of highway tanks (tank trucks) and TC portable tanks for the transportation of dangerous goods.  The standard also prescribes requirements for registration by Transport Canada of facilities, design review agencies and design engineers for conducting the activities within the scope of the standard.

Where is the standard referenced in the TDG Regulations?

Section 5.10 of the TDG Regulations specifies that a means of containment in accordance with CSA-B622 is a permitted container for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 2 by road or by ship while Section 5.14 of the TDG Regulations specifies that a means of containment in accordance with CSA-B621 is a permitted container for the transport of dangerous goods in Class 3, 4, 5, 6.1, 8 and 9, by road or by ship.  Both the CSA-B622 and CSA-B621 invoke the CSA-B620 in relation to the design, construction, certification, assembly, modification, repair, testing, inspection, periodic re-testing, maintenance, and marking of highway tanks (tank trucks) and TC portable tanks. CSA-B626 invokes CSA-B620 for the certification, assembly, marking, modification, repair, testing, inspection and periodic retesting, maintenance, and identification of TC 44 portable tanks.
