CNIB accessibility manual

Objective
To update Access needs of blind and visually impaired travellers in transportation terminals: a study and guidelines, a manual published in 1987 by TDC and the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.

Description
The update covered recent R&D initiatives, new technologies, and advanced training methods. Since 1987 considerable progress has been made in orientation and wayfinding methods to assist visually impaired travellers. The manual covers facilities, systems, and procedures related to accessibility in transportation terminals.

A committee made up of transportation planners, architects, and blind and visually impaired travellers, as well as rehabilitation, orientation, and mobility specialists guided the project.

Results
The update of the manual has been completed.
